Welcome to our Exoprise website and to this blog, where we can share our thoughts about cloud computing, software-as-a-service and computing trends in general. At Exoprise, we’re assembling a terrific team to build software-plus-service products that help companies take advantage of the cloud. We believe there is an incredible paradigm shift taking place with the adoption of web-based services (of course!) and that companies of all sizes could use help along the way in adopting cloud computing.

I’m Jason Lieblich, the CEO and Founder of Exoprise, and over time we will have contributions from other members of the team, customers, and advocates. To start, we need to get our core message out and tell the world what we do (and plan to do).

How big is this?

Gartner estimates that by 2013 the total cloud computing market will be $25 billion or 4.4% of the total computing market. That’s an increase from an estimated $11 billion growing at a >27% CAGR. Some of the factors that are driving interest in and adoption of cloud computing are:

  • Many IT shops are at a breaking point due to infrastructure and application complexity
  • Majority of IT resources are dedicated to maintenance and operations
  • Lack of budget dollars for new projects over the past few years as the recession has taken hold
  • Growth of alternative platforms; mobile, OS, and form-factors that make it difficult for IT to manage

As a result, some forward-thinking IT shops and small businesses have turned to cloud computing to lower costs and transform capex into opex with on-demand based services. Clearly, SaaS computing enables those IT to be more responsive and better align themselves with the needs of the business.

Exoprise tools and services detail for IT exactly what the costs are, what’s being used and what isn’t, where the complexity is, and what the system reliability looks like. Then we show IT how much better it would be in the cloud for their particular environment, end-users and applications. That’s just the start.

Why is this hard?

Why is it hard for companies to adopt cloud-computing and different SaaS products? One of the biggest difficulties is identifying where the problems might exist before the migration. Another leading IT analyst firm makes the following recommendations to companies interested in adopting cloud computing:

  • Build the skill needed to segment your employee population
  • Plan on blended models
  • Be prepared for vendor trial and error
  • Build the skills to assess cloud-based computing
  • Watch costs as you scale deployments

Exoprise has developed tools that do all the above and more! We look forward to sharing with you more detail about our products, services, and thoughts about cloud computing over the coming months. Subscribe to this blog so that you can know more about our solutions as we roll them out.
